Sue and David from B3 Took the dogs for a day trip to Treyarnon recently and as you can see Sue braved the slightly chilly sea to give Boo and Monica a bit of exercise and a bath.

They tell us the site was looking good after the storm we had last week with very little damage.
We are still waiting for deposits for provisionally booked holidays for this summer, please remember we must have them by the end of January or we will sell it to one of the many family's who are on our waiting lists for camping and caravan holidays at Treyarnon Bay.

We would like to wish all our customers a Merry Christmas and all the best for 2012.

The arrival of Christmas is a reminder that we are half way through our time away from Treyarnon Bay and that once the festivities are over the curtains and duvets will be replaced in the loft with the decorations and washed ready for the 1st April and the bookings for holidays will come rushing in once more.

Sadly we have closed the gate for 2011 and said goodbye to all the owners with their cars packed high with all their belongings.
It was made easier with the lovely sunny weather, but it did make some owners very reluctant to leave.
We are nearly all packed up and ready for our holiday (2 weeks sailing out in Greece) but we have just found out that they have been having some extreme weather conditions that are likely to continue for a while yet so we had better pack the wet weather gear.
A big thanks to all the Parks customers for helping to make our job an enjoyable one.
Your friendly and positive attitudes make it a pleasure to look after you all the best we can and the gifts of chocolate wine and beer from many of you say it all to us....thank you.
Have a great winter, hopefully see you all in the spring.

OK, so it has been a strange summer weather wise but the sun did shine now and then, and we only had to put the electric blanket on for one night in August when the temperature seemed to drop very quickly to what felt like minus 20 but over all it could have been a lot worse.
So now it is time to start thinking about making sure everything on site is ready for winter and when we close the gate to our customers at midnight on Friday the 30th September.
If you own a caravan on site remember we do not always have mild winters in Cornwall as we found out a couple of years ago, and it is in your own interest to make sure you drain everything down and pack away/winterize properly to avoid damage. The insurance company's will not pay out for damage unless you stick to the letter of your policy, read every bit if small print.

OK it was for one day only but it reminded us all that when the sun does come out Treyarnon Bay is a very popular place for family's to play on the beach.

The last 2 weeks have been very busy with all the caravan owners on site and the Camping Field and our Caravan Hire Fleet fully booked up.

The Fish and Chip van that comes to site Saturday and Wednesday evenings is proving popular and we can tell you from experience that it is very good.

Lets hope the sunny weather holds out for a few more weeks so the next batch of Treyarnon lovers can have a great holiday.

The sun is shinning, the wind has stopped blowing and the sea looks very inviting.
We got up this morning to a queue at the gate of campers that had set out at stupid o'clock to beat the traffic and get on the beach before our German visitors.
All our regular customers are booked in over the next six weeks and as usual we are fully booked in the Static Caravans and up in the Touring Field, the only time we have any room for camping is from the 20th of August (min stay 7 nights)

What a Week

Well what a week!.
For the start of the Whitsun Holidays it looked like we were in for the standard British Bank Holiday rain and wind, but what a change, by mid week you could not see the beach for all the people enjoying the sun and surf and we were having to turn lots of people away who had waited for the weather before trying to book a few days camping, that's why you must book early if you want to guarantee a space on the Field during School Holidays.
Everyone went home suntanned happy and relaxed ready for Monday morning blues.
It will be the summer Holiday before we know it.
All the Static Caravans are fully booked and the Touring Field is full until 20th August.
It is the Royal Cornwall Show Thursday 9th through to Saturday 11th June we have plenty of camping available if you fancy a day out and not travelling home.
Meduim tent for a family of up to 5 is only £11. (2 adults & 3 children under 17yrs)

Try Praying a Little Harder Please.

Well we do not think you can have put much effort into praying for good weather.

Look what the beach was like this morning, covered in thick mucky foam, the result of 60mph winds whipping up the sea into a frothy mess.
Try harder please.
We hope this weekend all our owners will be on site and enjoying their caravans and the weather will be good for you all.
We are fully booked in the Touring Field and Static Caravans.

All our regular customers are returning this year with a few new ones apprehensive about their first holiday at Treyarnon Bay we hope everyone has a safe, stress free journey this weekend.

Praying for Some Sun....again!

With less than a week to go before the Whitsun Holidays we have been praying for the sun to shine and the wind to die down.

This will be our fifth season at Treyarnon so its about time we had a dry, hot and still Whitsun week like the ones we remember from our childhood, or is age playing tricks with our memory and it has always been hit and miss weather in early June and as children we just did not notice or care as long as we were having fun?

The children will be getting restless now thinking about the beach and playing in the surf more than their school work, but remember kiddies do not forget that without hard work at school and a few exams passed you will end up just a TOILET CLEANER with a very strict lady boss who gives you no time off to play like poor old Warden Woz.

After the Easter Holidays and the very busy time we had on site, due in part to the great weather and the extra holiday for the Royal Wedding.
It is now very quiet here at Treyarnon, the weather is still quite good and fairly warm, so if you are looking for a nice relaxing break away from the crowds now is the time to come on down to Cornwall.
We have some Static Caravans available to hire and space in the Touring Field for those of you who prefer to bring your own accommodation.
The life guards are now back on the beaches and the water has warmed up a bit if you fancy getting in amongst the waves, or go up on the cliffs for a walk on the coastal path where you will see all the wild flowers coming in to bloom.
A trip into Padstow is much more pleasant without the crowds of the summer and a couple of hours watching the world go by down by the harbour is recommended as a way to get some relief from the stress we all face these days.
Remember it is only 3 weeks until the Whitsun holidays and the summer will be upon us before you know it.

It's Time to Open the Gates

It is time to empty the spare room and loft to load the car with all your Treyarnon belongings, it does not seem 5 minutes since we locked you all out! We open again for business on Friday 1st April and lets hope the good weather we have been having continues. A few owners have already been to their caravans to set them up and cut the grass, so far no problems have been reported. Let's hope it will be like this for everyone. Please pop your Caravan Insurance Certificate in with your luggage as, it will be needed if the office does not have an up to date copy before you can occupy your caravan. We have a few mad Campers coming. The Static Caravans are fully booked for the school holidays. Easter Week 23rd-30th we still have some availability cost @ £205. See you all soon.

We arrived back on site last Saturday lunch time to blue Sky's and sunshine and it has been like that all week, it's a bit chilly at night with ice on the inside of the caravan windows in the morning. A good reason to stay in bed till the sun comes out.

The site is looking good after the winter and so far no sign of any frost damage.

The water and electricity is back on and a few people have been to site to check their caravans.

Bookings are looking quite good and the Static Caravans are all booked up for the main summer holidays just a few spots left for the August Bank Holiday week.

Camping spaces are booking up fast so get your deposits in if you do not want to be disappointed as it will not be long before it will be fully booked for the summer.

Four new caravans on order for the coming season and the owners are getting very exited, lets hope the good weather holds out so we can get them all in place and connected up for Easter.

The site opens again for business on Friday the 1st of April.
All Static Caravan Owners please remember the site office must have a current in date Gas Safety Certificate and copy of your in date Caravan Insurance before you start to use your caravan.

We hope you all had a good New Year and have made your resolutions and hopefully can keep them up for a week or two!
The festive season is behind us and we are now all starting to think about the spring.
The site re opens on the 1st of April.
We will be back on site 1st March to set everything back up in readiness for your arrival.
4 Owners are having new caravans this year, so lots to do.
The water should be turned on during March, weather pending so those of you that require your Gas Safety Certificates doing can confirm with us it is on and then you can contact your Gas man.

It is a strange Easter this year, the children break up on the 9th of April, Good Friday is the 22nd of April and many of the schools are back in on the Tuesday 26th.
Hence this year we still have a few caravans for hire @ £205 (23rd-30th April) and plenty of camping pitches left if you are mad enough!

If you have made any provisional bookings with us for both Static Caravans and Touring Field please make sure you download a booking form and send your deposit in with a sae by end of January to hold your booking or contact Lin to let her know of you intentions.
As always the Static Caravans and Electric Hook ups for the main season are all provisionally booked. Plenty of availability for non electric hook ups.

Any deposits for provisional bookings made last year not in by the end of January will mean we will not hold your booking and the dates/holiday will be sold to someone else.

Love was in the sand at Treyarnon Bay in September. Lee McCormick got up really early on the 7th September to ask his girlfriend Steph Linton to marry him by writing it in the sand, luck would have it Lee had his tide times right and Steph said " YES".

Treyarnon Bay is a very special place to both of them and Lee knew it was where he wanted to propose to Steph, his only problem was getting down to the beach whilst Steph was in bed and hoping the public would not walk through it before he managed to get Steph down to the beach.

Congratulations to you both.

Well the nights are drawing in and its time to start thinking about looking where we put the electric blanket so that must mean it's nearly time to shut up shop and head for the sun!
The last day of our season is Thursday 30th September and it is rolling round fast.
(no sleepovers allowed on the Thursday)

So for all you caravan owners at Treyarnon Bay its time to make sure that your pride and joy is all prepared for the winter and for any nasty cold weather that may come along.

Most of you owners know how to wrap your caravans up for winter and could teach us a thing or two, but just a little reminder of what needs to be done here is a list of the most important things you should be doing.
Turn off the gas at the gas bottle, unscrew the regulator from the bottle cover it with a plastic bag and tuck it up safe under the caravan or cover the regulator by putting a bucket over the top of the bottle and securing it.
Make sure the gas bottle is secure and can not be blown over in strong winds.
Turn off the mains water supply and disconnect the pipe from the caravan remove the pressure reducing valve and put it inside where the frost can not get to it.
Open any drain valves that are in the pipe work underneath the caravan.
Open all the taps to allow air in and the water in the pipes to drain out.
Place the shower hose in the bottom of the shower tray to drain.
Remove the drain screw from the boiler.
Turn off the electric at the box outside (switches down)
Please check that you only turn off your own supply if there are more than two switches in the
box you may be turning your neighbours off.
Clean out the fridge and leave the door propped open.
Take down all the curtains take them home in the warm with your bedding if you can.
Stack all the cushions in the center of the lounge and cover with a blanket.
Stack mattresses on their sides away from windows.
Cover carpets with blankets or paper to stop the sun fading them.
Pour antifreeze down the toilet pan and in the cistern and down the plug holes.
Put bowls of salt in every room in the caravan.
Lay a blanket over your cooker to protect it from the sea air.
Take all your valuables home.
Make sure your storage box is secure pop a breeze block on top and tie rope around it.
If possible take the TV aerial down and put inside.
When you have finished and locked up, push some Vaseline into the key holes to keep that nasty salt water that will come up from the sea in the wind out of the locks.
OK you can go off home now and either get on an aeroplane and go somewhere warm for the winter or move to the back of your cave and snuggle down and hibernate until spring and then we may let you back on site to get your caravan ready for summer.

Glamping.............Treyarnon Way!

The size of tent and amount of stuff that people bring on their camping holidays seems to increase every year.

This year we had our first kind of proper Glamper who spent 6 weeks living in Luxury in her Princess Palace with all the mod cons of 21st Century Life......Fridge Freezer, Electric Hob, 6 Double Beds, Flat Screen TV and all the extras........ Electric Fires, Full Patio Set with Umbrella and BBQ , Bikes, Surf Boards and even the Kitchen Sink!

All it took was a Good Man and a very Big Trailer to Lug it all down and back again.

And to top off her Holiday she was treated to a Posh Meal and night in the Best Suite at the Treglos Hotel to get over having to Slum it for so long.
Some people just do not know when they have it all, do they Corrina!

Fun in the camping field

We had a good turn out in the camping field over the bank holiday.

The children made the most of bike jumps that the Bees family from St Austell brought with them in their Camper lorry.

Eldest son Henry and dad Neil were kept busy instructing all the boys and girls who wanted to have a go at jumping their bikes .

Neil was banned from giving practical demonstrations after a spectacular crash that was a good lesson to all the youngsters on the perils of drink driving.

Be prepared for a very long wait for you dinner!

Our Daughter took her partner and in laws to the Tredrea Inn at Porthcothan for a meal last night, whilst the food when it eventually arrived was nice, because of the nearly 2 hour wait to get it they had all lost the enthusiasm for food that had been with them when they had walked across the headland from the Caravan Park to Pub.

Despite having pre booked a table thinking its going to be busy, once seated the wait to order was at least half an hour and they then had to watch as people who had ordered long after them have two courses served to them and had left the pub before their food arrived.

A request to their first waiter after about an hour assured them the food would not be long, (they never saw him again). Complaining to the duty manager after the meal ( they had spent over a £100 by now on 4 steaks and drinks) the response was less than satisfying, even an apology would of done.

The plan for an early dinner and stroll back across the headland to see the spectacular sunset was ruined by poor service and a couldn't care attitude from the management.

We would not recommend you go there for a meal unless you have lots of time on your hands,
and save enough money for a taxi home!

Kiwi Kim To The Rescue!

Yesterday I was reminded of the strength and unpredictability of the currents and rips that make entering the sea at Treyarnon Bay a time to be thankful that we have the RNLI life guards watching over us during the summer.

The chance of an hour off and time to try yet again to stand up on that barn door of a surf board ended with me being helped to get out of a strong rip on the left (south) side of the bay and back on to the beach.

The surf was quite messy with the waves braking in rapid succession and the tide nearly right in when RNLI life guard Kim Hendrie saw that I was finding it difficult to get back into safe water. Despite the risk to herself she paddled out to me on her rescue board and assisted me back on to the beach.

OK so what would have happened had as quite often I go in the sea after 6pm when I finish work and the life guards are off duty?

I could have let the current pull me out to sea and worked my way back across the bay (done it before) but it is quite scary.

In previous years I could have pulled myself back in on the line that the RNLI use to lay on the left of the beach and has been the saviour of quite a few people I know .
Unfortunately the line has not been laid this year, due I'm told to health and safety concerns over an incident last year on a Newquay Beach.

So the lesson learned is take extra care, stay in water you can stand up in, if you can not use the safest part of the beach when it is full of people under life guard supervision, pray for Kim to rescue you when it all goes wrong.

Thanks to Kim and all the Life guards on the beaches from the customers and staff at Treyarnon Bay Caravan Park for keeping us safe durring the summer.

The New Generation of Treyarnon Bay Caravan Park regulars have been arriving this year.
The latest to arrive is Rosie Elizabeth Brader born on the 15/8/2010 to Mum Tean, Dad Kevin and Big brother Fin they are overjoyed with the new addition to the family as are
Grandparents Jenny and Peter from L3 and Jill from H5.
A month before that we had the news of two other special events with the arrival of Twin Boys Thomas William and Jack Anthony born on the 17/7/2010 to Mum Katie and Dad Dan.
The proud Grandparents Jenny and Bill from B1 will have their hands full now looking after the boys as well as Katie and Dans dogs.
And in July we also had Lilly Grace arrive for the Bartley family in C9.
All Grandparent are putting the Grandchildren on the waiting list for caravans when they come of age!!!!!!!!!!!

The group have been out enjoying their usual regular outings, it appears this year the Credit Crunch has had an effect on the group, when they were spotted on the journey round to Porthcothan with all the equipment required to do their own Cream Tea's.

Sixty Years On!

Jenny Price from caravan B1 first came to Treyarnon Bay 60 years ago and has been coming ever since.
She celebrated the event with family and friends in true Treyarnon fashion.
The next big event will be the arrival of the new generation of family when daughter Katie gives birth to the twins she is expecting. Good luck to her and husband Dan.

Security Contract Went to Tender!

This year we put our Security Contract out to Tender and we were surprised by the amount of response we had.
The main contender is Morgans Doggy Watch who whilst camping with us last weekend introduced their team to us.
We asked for a demonstration of their abilities and put the Team to work straight away, we are a little unsure of their customer care as no smiling was to be seen and we are unsure if they will show much respect for the gardens on site but the Boxer Bandit has a striking resemblance to Martin who has been our security contractor for years, sadly our site rules state that NO DOGS in the Touring Field in High season so we think we will be sticking with Martin.

What a grand week we have just had for Whitsun Half Term, the best weather we have seen in our 4 years as Wardens at Treyarnon Bay.
Everyone has been enjoying the Sunshine with just the right amount of Surf to keep all but the most extreme of Sea Lovers happy, warm evenings meant the BBQ'S were out every night with some gorgeous smells wafting around the site making it hard for us to stick to the diet we are supposed to be on.

Well it has been lovely & dry for the last couple of weeks although a little on the cold side.
The latest forecast is that daytime temperatures are starting to rise and by the Bank Holiday at the end of the month they could be climbing up into the low twenty's. The life guards came back on duty this week and the sea looks very inviting.

Warren has got to sit on his lawn mower for days to try and get on top of the mad growth of daisy's on site this year, he did consider buying a few chickens to run around on site whilst your all not here, then he could sit back enjoy the sun and down a few cold beers......Lin will not hear of it!

We are now fully booked up for the Whitsun week and the main summer weeks are filling up fast (some weeks are already fully booked) so if your thinking of joining us this year up in the camping field during the school summer holidays get your booking in NOW.

The site is looking good as again this year we have had 8 owners buying new caravans.
Warren is siting the last one this week for the Taylor family from Bath.
We felt that Catherine was giving birth with the excitement on the end of the phone needing updates on the imminent delivery of it!

So hopefully it is going to be a bank holiday with plenty of sunshine, lazy days on the beach followed by BBQ's a few beers and the kids in bed early worn out by the day in the sea. We all deserve it!

Well May Day is almost upon us and we will be expecting the arrival of our regulars who come down for the Obby Oss Celebration's in Padstow.
We are hoping that the recent spell of good weather will hold out at least until sufficient liquid refreshment has been consumed that a drop of rain will go unnoticed!!!

Easter Weekend

We opened on Thursday April the 1st!
Day 3 of the New Season and the Site is starting to come to life again.
Every ones arriving with the cars loaded to the top, we provided a good full day of SUNSHINE yesterday and today looks as good, there is some cloud and it is a wee bit cold, but the Sky has Blue Patches and some mad people are even talking about going for a Surf.
Curtains are going up everywhere and Grass being Mowed, it is lovely to see the Site come back alive.
This is our fourth year as Wardens at Treyarnon and we are getting better at putting names to all your faces, well hopefully we are calling you by your names.
We have had 5 new caravans this year and some very excited Owners, we are awaiting the arrival of 2 more.
The Porta Loo was delivered for the season on Tuesday, it was so popular last year it had to return...........Warren is so proud!
We do have some mad campers in the Touring Field and we think of them at night when we are in our warm cosy bed!
The Hire Caravans are full with our usual Easter customers from the Midlands and Jane and her boys from London are having their first holiday back at Treyarnon after such a sad year losing Tony, our thoughts are with them.
The road up through the Car Park has a nice new layer of Tarmac on it, but please remember it is not a Race Track just because you do not have to slow down for the pot holes 10mph PLEASE.
The bookings for the Static Caravans in High Season are nearly fully booked and all the the Electric Hook-ups in High Season are also fully booked, 7th-14th August has only 3 pitches left, so if you are thinking of camping this year do not leave it too much longer.
Please remember NO DOGS in the Touring Field after 24th July until Bank Holiday. (Well behaved children are welcome)

Hopefully May Bank Holiday will soon be with us and we will see and smell the Barbies then roll into a gorgeous summer...... well we can all hope!

Today is the start of the New Season. We got up this Morning to Brilliant Sunshine, the Wind has died down to a gentle warm blow from the South and the Sea is looking very inviting with the Waves just right for a Spot of Body Boarding and Surfing.

We are Back and all is Well.

We arrived back on site around lunch time on Saturday to a still warm sunny afternoon. The sea was calmer than in the summer and it was only the thought of just how cold the water would be that stopped me from getting my kayak out of the shed and going for a paddle around the bay, maybe in a couple of weeks I will pluck up the courage and give it a go.

The caravan park is looking OK after the winter, no major damage to any of the caravans just a couple of storage boxes with the lids blown off.

Our dog and cat seem very happy to be back at the seaside. Alfie is very keen to spend his time chasing the rabbits around the camping field and going down on the beach to jump in the rock pools. The cat has found a way to get on the caravan roof and thinks its great fun to run up and down making as much noise as she can, we still have not worked out how she is getting up there.

The water and electricity have been turned back on today and there does not seem to have been any frost damage this year.
Now is the time for you caravan owners to start thinking about your gas safety checks, if you want to get it done before the start of the season you need to contact your gas engineer as they will be very busy over the next few weeks.

Some lucky owners are having new caravans this year and we will do our best to get them sited asap.
Lin is spending special time as usual with her fly whacker & cobweb brush.

We are rushing around getting everything ready for the 1st of April and it will be good to see you all again lets all pray for some sun this summer and maybe a few fish in the sea for the BBQ.

OK this is your last chance to secure any provisional bookings you made for a holiday this year. (please look at our last post). We are going away for a week on holiday to Cyprus before we come back to Treyarnon.
So if your booking form and cheque is not with us by the time we return on the 15th of February we will assume you no longer require the Caravan or Camping Pitch and will allocate the dates to customers on the waiting list who will then have priority to book again the following year.

We are really looking fowards to returning to Treyarnon and hope to be back on site around the 25th of February to make a start on getting everything ready for the start of season-1st April.
As we have had another cold winter we hope there will not be a repeat of the burst pipe saga of 2009 and you all remembered to drain down your caravans properly!
We will let you know when the water and electricity has been turned back on so you can make arrangements to get your annual gas safety checks done.

The last few weeks have been a bit hectic for us, but we are ready now for a rest over the holiday period ready for the New Year and the mad rush of all the Treyarnon regulars booking their holidays.

Please remember if you provisionally booked a Static Caravan or a pitch in the Camping Field you need to send the deposit during January or you may lose your holiday.

When you download the booking form from the website, you will see some changes to the procedures, we now require full payment 4 weeks before the start date of your holiday and the deposit for Static Caravan holidays is now £100 per week.

Boobys Bay Ship Wreck

Like us you may have been over to Bobbys Bay at low tide and come

across the few remaining relics of the ship that was wrecked on the beach back in 1917.

Thanks to Sue and David (b3) for the information and pictures they found in Padstow Museum that tells the story of the sailing ship the Carl of Hamburg that was captured during the 1st world war and whilst under a tow that parted, ended up being driven up on to the rocks at Boobys Bay and wrecked during a storm.

We have been looking for more information on the ship but so far have not found any.

Well the site is all closed up for the winter, electric off, water off, gas bottles turned off, post redirected, phone on divert and the gates all locked time for a rest.

Not much chance of that when you have got Lin the slave driver standing over you day and night waiting for her new kitchen to be fitted, the shower to be plumbed in, the loft to be boarded out so there is somewhere for all the junk she has collected over the last 30 years.

I have to get up on the roof and fit a TV aerial so she can sit down in the front room and watch that rubbish dancing program while I fix the leak where I drilled through the hidden water pipe in the kitchen wall and sprayed loads of water all over her new electric cooker.

Oh and when I think there may be some light at the end of the tunnel the daughter brings round the screaming , eating, pooping machine and Lin goes in to nanny mode, fetch me this for Lilly, fetch me that for Lilly, don't do that its not good for Lilly and hurry up and get the spare room ready so I can have Lilly stop over night.

Bring on the summer of 2010 and my return to the tranquility of Treyarnon Bay.

I miss you all.

The summer that never arrived seems to be well and truly over and in four weeks time all you owners of static caravans should have put them away for the winter.
Last year quite a few of you did not do this, which resulted in lots of problems at the start of the new season. So here are some tips on how we try to minimise any damage from the frost and damp.

Turn off the gas at the bottle and cover the regulator (a bucket tied upside down over the top of the bottle is good).

Turn off the water supply to the caravan at the main stop tap and disconnect the pipe completely at the pressure reducing valve.

Take off the pressure reducing valve, store in the caravan.

Open the drain valves underneath the caravan. If none found disconnect hot and cold pipe work at a couple of places to allow water to drain out.

Open all taps (leave them open)

Place shower hose in bottom of shower, or disconnect from mixer valve.

Put some antifreeze in the toilet bowl and cistern, pour some down the sink and shower waste to stop the traps from freezing. (We use cheap car antifreeze).

Remove the drain screw from the boiler (If applicable).

Put some bowls of salt around the caravan to absorb some of the moisture.

Take down the curtains (take them home and wash so clean for next year).

Stack seating in center of lounge so not in direct sun light and cover with a blanket.

Turn mattresses on their side and cover with a blanket.

Take bedding home if possible or lay around the mattresses.

Clean cooker then Cover top with a blanket or towel

Clean fridge and leave door open (wedge open)

Put TV and any other valuables you can not take home in a wardrobe and cover up.

On leaving the caravan push some Vaseline into the door locks and cover with sticky tape.

Those of you that have had caravans for many years will probably have some more use full tips

that could help prolong the life of the caravan and we are sure everyone would be grateful if you would like to share them with us all.

If you are unsure of what to do please speak to us and we will try to advise you.

There have been quite a few people at Treyarnon recently that have been suffering from sickness and diarrhoea the cause of which was confirmed yesterday afternoon by the local Health Protection Agency as being Norovirus.

The outbrake of this very infectious virus is known to be within the community from Newquay to Padstow and its original source is unknown, but the relevant government departments are carrying out investigations into how it started.

At Treyarnon we have implemented procedures recommended by the Health and Safety Executive in an attempt to keep the virus out of our Caravan Park, but as it is so wide spread out in the community this is proving difficult.

Our advice now that we have confirmation that it is Norovirus, is that if you are coming into the area on holiday to take extra precautions with regard to personal hygiene and if you or a family member do come down with the symptoms try to clean up with a chlorine based cleanser to minimise the risk of further contamination.

As to whether or not you should cancel your holiday this is entirely your own choice, we can only advice on the precautions you should take to minimise the chances of getting the Virus.

Another week has flown by and still we have not had much in the way of proper summer sun shine.

The site has seen lots of the regulars come and go and we hope they all had a good time this year despite the rain.

Sitting in the office I can see two large removal Lorry's in the driveway of one of the houses across the bay. We believe that the new owners are moving in today. (Welcome to Treyarnon whoever you are) All we ask is that if you like your music, keep it to your self please, as lately we have been kept awake by the inconsiderate actions of people from one of the houses on the cliff playing loud music all hours of the night.(Buy your self some headphones you idiot)

A couple of weeks ago we had a visit from a lost Racing Pigeon.

He took a liking to Treyarnon and made himself quite at home even venturing into some of the static caravans while the owners backs were turned.

Arthur Comstock (T8) Managed to persuade him into a cardboard box and took him to Mr Newson in Padstow who traced his owner by the number on his leg ring and Paddy is now on his way back to Ireland via the: racing pigeon rescue service:

(Lilly Ann Myers).
Congratulations to Selina and Edward.
It took quite a lot of persuasion to get Lin to come back to work but they have promised to bring Lilly for her first visit to Treyarnon and to meet her Granddad before the end of the summer
Oh and we have been told she was conceived at Treyarnon so it is almost guaranteed that she will grow to love it down here as we all do.

Sea trials

Dr Derry and I took the Scorpion ( Emme-Loo- two, think we will have to re name her) out for some sea trials Thursday evening.

Once we had over come a few teething problems with the rigging and pushed out through the surf we had a lively sail across Constantine Bay towards Trevose Head coming back in just as the sun was setting.

Just got a few bits to sort out and screw back on and we will take her down to Padstow for a trip up the river.

Our Son Mike & his wife Claire went out fishing on the kayak yesterday in what can only be described as very rough seas.

Despite this they still came back with a few fish and an elbow (zoom in to Mikes left elbow for the gorey details).

A big thank you to Dr Steve Derry our latest on site Medic for removing the offending article and saving them from a long wait at A& E.

Plus big thanks to Andrew Brader for pulling them from the surf after they managed to tip the kayak upside down trying to get back in through the waves (that is when Mike sustained his injury)

Had a very enjoyable couple of hours out on my kayak yesterday and for a change came home with some fish. The only problem was that despite my excitement at the size of the 2 biggest ones, I was told that Ballan Wrasse (that's what they are apparently) are not usually eaten because of the many bones and they do not taste that good.

Well I filleted them, added lots of black pepper, salt rolled them in flour and then fried in butter, even Lin said it was not too bad with some bread and butter and a bottle of beer.

The pollack and other one (not sure what it is) went straight in the freezer for another day.

Again we are seeing a building being bulldozed to the ground to make way for what I suspect will be yet one more monstrosity to sit on the headland unused except for when Lord and Lady Muck can spare a few days from their busy schedule. Oppps is that an unfair statement?

I for one am concerned that Treyarnon Bay will be turned into the same exclusive enclave of hooray Henry's that Rock has become.

On a lighter note I did wonder if we will find out later that one of our illustrious members of parliament had claimed it on their expenses as second home improvements.

A very good week for camping

The weather has been changeable but much better than we have had at Whitsun for the last two years.
The camping field was very busy with the usual suspects in their tourers or under canvas and all seemed to be having a good time.
Luckily the fellow in the picture was staying somewhere else ( unless any of your know differently)
But judging by the quantity of wine bottles and beer cans in the recycling bins yesterday the odd aspirin or two may have been required some mornings.
The forecast is quite good for the next few days but its time you were all back at work and school to give use a rest and a chance to get ready for the summer madness.

At last, they are saying we are all in for a great Bank Holiday with plenty of SUNSHINE and not too much wind. www.metoffice.gov.uk
Everyone is starting to arrive with their cars loaded to the top with surf boards and beach gear, under the towels bet there is a beer or two!
The site is looking good with the new tarmac, the showers have had some tiling done and the porta loo has had some hot water put in.
We have had 9 new caravans arrive on site this year including the two that arrived this week, hopefully now Mr Jones will have happy children!
Our Cat Kylie has gone missing again on site, we think she has run off with a bunny! She has been seen up the top of the site along A row and has been gone for nearly 4 weeks, please let us know if you see her she is a small Tabby.

Bank Holiday Week

The Whitsun Holiday week is fast approaching as we can tell by the change in the weather to howling gales and lashing rain.The grass is growing that quickly you can see the daisies coming back up before you put the mower away but the ever increasing site rabbit population seem to appreciate the extra food supply.

This weekend sees the life guards back on Treyarnon Beach for the summer so bring your wet suits and surfing toys and have some fun out there in the waves.

I took my sit on top kayak out for the first time this year the other day, the surf was a bit big and messy and I got pushed off quite a lot but had a good time.(Just to remind me of my age and lack of exercise over the winter the body has now seized up at every joint)

Most of you have now been and opened up you caravans and had the water leaks repaired and the gas safety check done but if you have not been to your van yet remember there is a high probability of water leaks due to frost damage and you need to take care when you turn the water back on for the first time.

Anyway we hope to see most of you owners and regular visitors next weekend, have a safe journey.

The wind got up last night and blew off the sea with gusts of 60mph all through the night, keeping all but the strongest sleepers awake (or the ones with the foresight to have had a few drinks before bed). Morning saw the site littered with patio tables and chairs that had been left out and the rubbish bins had taken a walk on their own but no major damage to any of the caravans.
Its still blowing well as I write and with a very high tide due this evening we could have the sea up into the sand dunes .
Lets hope for some sunshine next weekend for the Bank Holiday.

Padstow Life Boat

Attention all Static Caravan Owners.

If you are the owner of a Static Caravan at Treyarnon Bay please be aware that the unusually cold weather that we had in Cornwall this winter has resulted in quite a few burst pipes in the caravans and around the site.

We discovered this when we turned the main water supply to the site back on and reconnected the hire fleet caravans. Despite having drained down the systems we still had a lot of burst pipes and other frost damage that has resulted in some flooding in the caravans and toilets,showers,laundry etc.

Unfortunately some of you had not turned off your stop taps and drained down your caravans, so when the park supply was turned back on after the winter we found water running out of places it should not have been on a few of the caravans. We have isolated the supply to these vans as soon as we found the problem and have tried to contact the owner to let them know.

Other owners have been coming to site and finding that like us even though they had drained their caravans when they packed up in September when they turn on the stop tap to the van they have burst pipes and water running out everywhere.

One of the most common problems seems to be plastic pipe joints being pushed apart by the frost resulting in you repair one leak and the increase in pressure causes another damaged joint to push apart, or you think you have fixed all the leaks only to find that an hour or so later yet more have appeared.

We are constantly checking around the site to see if there are any more signs of leaks from the caravans and would advise you all to be prepared that even if you turned off your stop tap and drained the pipes on you van you could still have frost damage so check very carefully when you turn the water back on.

If you ask your plumber to collect keys for you caravan from the site office please phone or email us to give authorisation to release the keys.
Remember you must have a gas test done on your caravan every year so it may save money to have it done whilst the plumber is doing the repairs.

We watched all week as the gang of workmen first built a stage using masses of scaffolding and then on the windiest day of the week put up the monster marque.

We waited in anticipation for the whole lot to take to the Sky in the very strong winds that have and are still battering Treyarnonbay, but it has survived (so far, as we are having gust over 60 mph this afternoon)

From the sound of the music that went on into the small hours of Sunday morning we assume that the young couple who's wedding reception was held up there on the cliff had a grand old time.

This week has seen the passing of one of Treyarnons oldest occupants.
35 happy years have been spent in her bringing so many special memories to all the family.
But it is time to move over and let a new Willerby take her place, due to arrive any time this month.

We looked out of the caravan window early this morning to see this crazy couple running down the beach in their swimming costumes.

It must have been very cold in the sea because it only took a couple of minutes to get the camera and they were on the way back.

It gave us both Goose bumps just watching them.

We arrived back on site Saturday afternoon in bright sunshine, the tide was on the way in and some nutter was bobbing up and down on his surf board in some nice waves, still far to cold for me to even think about going for a dip.

We had a good look around the site on Sunday and apart from a couple of TV aerials hanging down everything looks fine, the resident Bunny's have been digging up the grass in a few places and I'm sure some of the sea gulls have been feasting on cake and pies by the size of them and the noise they made dancing on the caravan roof last night.

We will try and post some new pictures to get you exited about returning to Treyarnon, just have to find where we put the camera when we unpacked all our stuff?

Despite all our efforts this winter we have failed to win anything on the lottery, football pools or premium bonds so our plans to retire and sail around the world will have to be put on hold for at least one more summer.

So we will be loading up all our possessions including the cat and the dog and heading back to Treyarnon Bay on Saturday the 21st of February.

Hopefully that will give us both time to get all the jobs done around site ready for the start of season on Wednesday the 1st of April.

Happy New Year to all who visit and enjoy Treyarnon Bay.

OK most of you have had a few days off so that's enough lazing about for now.

Time to start thinking about your holidays.

Those of you that have made a provisional booking for this year should be sending in their deposits before the end of January, so go to our web site www.treyarnonbay.co.uk print off a booking form and get it in the post with a cheque /please do not forget the stamped addressed envelope for your receipt.

If you have not booked for 2009 yet please think about doing it soon the main season weeks are filling up fast, it might be the forecast of a good summer or that the pound is not worth much against the Euro .

Those of you lucky enough to own a caravan at Treyarnon Bay can start to plan for the start of season on the 1st of April.

We will keep you all posted on anything going on before then and hope to be back at Treyarnon towards the end of February to start getting things ready.

Well we are back from our holiday and we had a great time.

The fish is a small Tuna we caught off the coast of Corfu.

Lin cooked it and it went down well with a bottle of local wine.

Although we are staying in Ironbridge Shropshire all calls and post are diverted to us.

We may be a bit slow with email replies and blog posts as we are working with a Mobile Internet Connection and it is all a bit hit and miss down in the Ironbridge Gorge.

After our holiday we took a quick trip down to Treyarnon and everything looked fine.

Well the site is now all shut up for the winter every thing is turned off and drained down.
Lin has been busy washing curtains and scrubbing the caravans in the hire fleet whilst I have been making the most of the last bit of sun shine out on the water on my kayak.

Sunday we are off sailing around the Ionian Islands of Greece for 3 weeks http://www.sailingholidays.com/ for our holiday.We will be back on November the 3rd if you need to contact us (If we survive Lin's navigation?)

Two of the caravans in the hire fleet (R2 & R3) have all ready been taken away and will be replaced with nice new ones in the spring, so if you have a provisional booking in either of them remember to get your deposits in during January as they will be very popular.

Winter came early

The last couple of weeks we had some very nice weather and the forecast was looking OK for early October, then this happened !

Strong winds whipped up the sea until we had our very own froth making machine. Our daughter Selina thought it was great and went down to the head land for a look.

Sorry folks but in the last 2 days we have seen more sun than there has been all summer.

We have been out on the kayak fishing and playing in the surf.

It is hard to believe that was it, that was our summer, it seemed like every Saturday we all held our breaths and waited hoping this was going to be the start........... time for sun lotion........... long Summer evenings on the beach ending with one of those BBQ's that the boys do best!

But no, even the security we have on site said everyone was settled down and most in bed by 10 o'clock.

We printed the Met Office forecast daily, only to see plenty of grey clouds and the occasional sun.
Proud of you we are, not only did the wind and rain try and send you home, we had a stomach bug go around the area as well. We hope everyone is well again.

No Indian summer on the way that's for sure, we are sat in the caravan with gusts of wind up to 46mph and Lins got her socks and slippers on with a blanket round her poor old legs.

Alfie is looking very sad, as no one is here to rub his belly the way he likes.

It was good to see Len Taylor (S5) on site after his operation, walking very well after his full MOT and a couple of new parts.

Rachel, Aaron and Rob(S6) gave us a good laugh with their attempts at kayaking in the big surf and after trying 4 different kayaks from Camel Canoe Hire http://www.ccak.co.uk/ Aaron treated him self to a new toy.

Kirsy Hughes (Mr Powling from E7s granddaughter) spent the best part of the summer holidays on site, hope you left grandads caravan tidy Kirsty and good luck with your first term as a teacher (do not think I would cope with a class of 11 year olds)

A Pre Breakfast Surf

Three generations of the Ferrar family going off for their pre breakfast dip as they do every day when they are here on their annual holidays.
Mr Ferrar (senior) started body board surfing in Bude back in 1935 and he first came to Treyarnon Bay when they stayed at Whistlers guest house in 1959.
They started staying on the caravan park in 1974 and apart from a couple of times have come back every year.
They told me that they have tried newer versions of body boards but still find that the traditional wooden board is best.
